Camino Day 2: Good Day for a Stroll
Today was a nice five and half mile stroll. Weather was good. Started a little chilly but we warmed up. Sun hid most of the day. We went from A Pena to Portomarin.
We walked many different types of trail surfaces: gravel, asphalt, concrete, rocks, mud, etc. Even had to avoid the cow and horse manure.
We came across an open small shop that had snacks, drinks and souvenirs. Also, it had a clean indoor bano (restroom)!!! So happy.
We had a couple of choices for the trail and did we take the easy ones? No! We took the route that is described as “Highly Difficult Pedestrian Section”.
Rio Miño is the river that runs by Portomarin. The river has some interesting history. The first bridge was built in 2nd century by the Romans. It was later rebuilt in the Middle Ages. In 1962, the reservoir was built with a dam. Now on clear days and when the water level, you can look into the waters and see the Roman bridge.
Not only was the bridge affected when the reservoir was built, but entire medieval village was. The Iglesia De San Nicolás (Church of St. Nicholas) was moved brick by brick up the Mount of 0 Cristo (Christ Mount) and rebuilt.
Enjoyed a great cheeseburger and a little ice cream. Now, to cheer on the Hogs. WPS!

Start of day smiles, trail surfaces and hedges and a friendly greeter who was looking for a snack.
